Karaikal: The District Administration in Karaikal has fully geared up to celebrate the 57th year of the Republic Day of the Nation in a befitting manner, Mr. Sudhir Kumar, IAS District Collector, Karaikal has taken stock of the Programme in final preparatory meeting held in the Collector Chamber on 24th January in which all Head of Offices in Karaikal were present. This would be the first ever Republic Day  Ceremony to be held in Karaikal after it has been declared as a District in June 2005.

The Republic Day parade will begin at the New Stadium - Bypass road at 9.05 hours on Thursday the 26th January 2006. The Collector will hoist the Flag and inspect the parade following which price distribution,  March past of the Police personal, School children will take place. The key attraction of this year's function is the live demonstration of anti insurgent action to be staged by the NCC Cadets.

Students from the selected schools in Karaikal District will perform cultural programme and several Departments have proposed to put up tableaux. The Agriculture Department, Education, Fisheries, Health, Municipality, Public Works (Buildings & Roads), Irrigation and Public Health Division have come up with tableaux showing Governmental schemes, programmes and projects that have been implemented in the District of Karaikal. In addition to these, the Vinayaga Mission Medical College, Karaikal will also be mounting the tableaux depicting messages on pulse polio programme, Tsunami medical relief camp, free medical camp etc. 

In an appeal to the general public, Trading Industrial Community in Karaikal, the District Collector requested to hoist/put up National Flag on the Republic Day in their own premises as well, before the main function at the stadium. The public can display the National Flag in a prominent location in their houses. He has also mentioned that the Government office/ institutions in Karaikal will hoist the National Flag at 7.00 hours on the Republic Day. However the main district function will be in the stadium from 9.05 hours. All Government Buildings, Government  House, Karaikal will be illuminated on account  of the National Day.
