DEFACEMENTS WILL BE STRICTLY DEALT WITH :COLLECTOR

Karaikal: District Election Officer cum Collector, Karaikal in the meeting held today called upon business establishments, Theatre Owners, Firms, Political Parties, Temple Authorities, Marriage Hall Owners in Karaikal to co-operate with the District Administration in removing unauthorized and illegal Posters, Hoardings, Bill Boards etc from Public and Private properties to keep the city clean especially with the view to enforce the Model Code of Conduct in vogue due to Civic Election in the District.

In a meeting held in the Chamber of the Collector with representatives of Business Establishments, Chamber of commerce, Temple Authorities, Marriage hall and Political Parties, Returning Officers of Civic Election, Commissioner of Commune Panchayats and Municipality, the Collector informed that the Pondicherry Municipality act of 1973 provides fixing of Posters and Banners in a regulated manner on payment of prescribed nominal fee with the Municipality / Commune Panchayats. All other boards, Posters will be treated as illegal and therefore the patrons of such Advertisements will have to remove such Banners, Advertisements at their own cost within two days is positively by 15-06-2006 failing which the authorities will remove them and cost along with fine will be realized from them. The Collector pointed out that the tendencies these days to insert Name and Photographs of Political Leaders / Candidates in Marriage Bill boards, outside Marriage Hall will also invite punitive actions under model code of conduct and therefore such display be limited within the hall. Similarly commercial advertisements should also be displayed only on payment of prescribed fee and at areas earmarked for advertisements.
